Committees

The work of the Board is accomplished through its committees.
The standing Board committees are:









Communications/Marketing

Works in the areas of external marketing, internal communications, and recruitment to reach out to prospective families, assist the Admission Office, advise on marketing and advertising strategies, and continuously improve communications within the school.

Development

Sets policies and goals for the development activities of the school, including Annual and Capital Campaigns and the Endowment Fund, and supports the school’s mission of providing an outstanding education by continuously increasing net funds raised through development efforts.

Educational Policy

Serves as a forum and sounding board for proposals from the Head of School and professional staff regarding major educational policy changes and proposed programs; monitors and makes recommendations about school programs, receives input from parents and provides feedback to the Board on educational policy issues.

Finance and Budget

Insures the financial success and stability of SSDS by reviewing and approving the school’s financial management strategy and acting as a resource for the financial professionals of the school.

Governance

Develops and implements practices, policies, procedures, education and training to ensure a strong and effective board for SSDS; ensures on-going cultivation and development of lay leadership, and oversees the Committee on Evaluation and Nominations, which evaluates individual Trustees and nominates individuals to serve as Trustees and Officers.

Operations Committee

Supports and provides Board oversight of school operations, including facilities management, technology, security, safety, real estate management, contracts, and liability, insurance and transportation.

Other Committees

Personnel: advises on human resources issues including best practices, policies and structures

Jewish Life: advises on issues related to the Jewish life of the school

Strategic Planning: works with the administration to determine long range directions for the school and develop a plan with specific strategies to guide action plans for the next 3-5 years.
