Then and Now

It all started with Jewish educational visionaries, a few pioneering families and their children, and our first graduating class in 1966. Today, we boast more than 2,000 graduates.

Schechter moved around to many different buildings in its first few decades. Styles have changed, school looks quite different now from the 1970s, 1980s or even early 2000s. Community members have moved across the country or the globe, new teachers have started and beloved teachers have retired. What endures, however, is a tight and timeless bond that unites the many generations of students and families with each other, faculty and staff, and with the powerful legacy of their Schechter education. We celebrate the impact our alumni have on their communities and places of employment. Click here to nominate a Schechter graduate for the Annual Outstanding Alumni Award.

“My Schechter People”

How often do we get updates or visits from alumni who say, “I’m still in touch with my Schechter people,” or “My wedding party was all my Schechter people.” Well, a lot! In addition to the lifelong friendships and connections that our alumni maintain, Schechter sponsors special alumni events throughout the year including reunions in a variety of cities and Israel, networking events, a pizza party before the Grade 8 Hebrew musical for high schoolers and a barbecue for high school seniors and their parents in the spring.

Alumni of all ages play an essential role in partnering with the Alumni Office as well as the Development Office to create programming, participate in fundraising activities and serve on the Board of Trustees and various school committees. Many alumni are now current parents themselves and send their own children to Schechter.
