Visual Arts Teacher PreK-4

Schechter Boston seeks an inspiring art teacher who is responsible for teaching art education to students in grades PreK-grade 4. Schechter provides a strong and vibrant arts education to every student in every grade, both within the classrooms and in art studios with specialists. 

The visual arts program for Grades PreK-4 includes drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, sculpture, and printmaking. Art projects are experiential and relevant to childhood experience where they learn and practice art techniques, and become adept at visual observation, art discussion, growing their own imaginations while learning the craft and techniques of art making. Art activities are meant to create awareness, be thought provoking, induce problem solving, skill building, create opportunities for joyful exploration and support student development of their individual artistic voice.

The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team, thinks creatively about curriculum and possibilities for innovation and enjoys working with young children.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, plan and implement a developmentally appropriate art curriculum for all classes including preparing and implementing differentiated instruction activities and assessments that meets the needs of every student. 
  • Work collaboratively with Arts Department on vision, curriculum development and teaching practice.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom, one that encourages students to take greater initiative for their own learning.
  • Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social and learning problems.
  • Create an effective and inviting environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and installations, changing content through the school year.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for an engaging teacher with BA or MA with focus on art education and experience working with elementary students in an educational setting and designing art lessons for the classroom. Candidates should have an appreciation for diverse learning styles, a commitment to best practice and professional development and an ability to collaborate effectively and work on a team

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to manage art supplies, equipment, tools and classroom, kiln and storage spaces and prepare bulletin and hanging displays.
  • Ability to stand and accompany students up and down stairs, outdoors during recess, lunch supervision and bus duty.
  • Develop an appreciation of the arts
  • Develop skills – competence and confidence  in the craft
  • Explore and develop their individual artistic voice
  • Share their work through public displays

Pay & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary; commensurate with experience up to $102,000
